DEFEAT! - the 9 Choirs
Antipode Gallery
Oct. 4, 2026. Seattle, WA

Presented for a third and final time, closing the loop on the rhythmic figure from the Midwest to the East Coast and finally, the West Coast, DEFEAT! thusly connects the 3 regions over the span of 20 years.  3 trios of 9 drummers performed 3 times, for a total of 9 trios and 27 drummers across 3 Octobers. Performed at Antipode in Seattle, the subterranean location fits the 9 drummers within the gallery space surrounded by the attendees.  The close quarters will inscribe the beat on not only the foundation of Pioneer Square’s Antipode but the audient’s as well. DEFEAT! was originally the 3rd part of a larger project entitled Le Conqueroo and was presented across the Midwest in 2006. The performance was again mounted as DEFEAT! Redux in Providence, RI, exactly 10 years later in October 2016. This third and final iteration in Seattle features a new libretto or manual and brings the triangle to a close.

“ Movement goes somewhere; speed goes nowhere.” - Jean Baudrillard.
