Stroll On: The Roof (we could've played train songs but we did this instead)

Stroll On was a performance and sub-sequent slide presentation (of the actual performance)

This system-specific performance was comprised of a group of musicians assembled on the Roof, an aptly named roof top gallery of a West Loop Chicago building. As Academy Records, this group of musicians did their best to recreate the Beatles' famous roof top performace as seen in their film "Let it Be".  As documentation of the actual Stroll On performance, a series of 80 slides were taken and re-presented every Saturday at 7 pm, the time of the original performance.

A nod to the riders of Chicago's Green line elevated train, the Roof provided a banner space for artists to present work for a months time.  As an artist group exploring the vernacular between image, music, and text as well as exploring content through distribution, Academy Record's developed Stroll On as  a response to the site rather than just a visual experience for train go-ers.  The content of the piece was derivative of the ubiqitious nature of bands paying homage to this iconic 1960's band and their film, thus we merely used it as a platform to present a situation.  Academy Records could've easily played train theme songs of the folk variety, but this seemed more appropriate given the members of the band and the space itself.  When the Yardbirds were approached to perform in Antonioni's film Blow Up, it is said that the film's producers could not afford the publishing rights to their hit song, "Train Kept A Rollin'", so they simply changed the title to "Stroll On", thus keeping the aesthetic alive without the lyrical content of the orginal. Academy Records's Stroll On additionally took care to homage the homage.
