Out On the Weekend: The Taking of Leisure Mountain

Out On the Weekend: The Taking of Leisure Mountain was a collaborative production by Academy Records, Chris Vorhees, and SIMPARCH. The production was commissioned for the Midwest Biennale at DePauw University's Richard E. Peeler Art Center.

Out On the Weekend: The Taking of Leisure Mountain included a large-scale sculptural installation, drawing series, performance and live radio broadcast. Depauw University students participated in the performance, which was simultaneously broadcast on WGRE, the campus radio station. The installation, a mountainous shelter constructed entirely of lawn chairs, stood for several months, and then was consolidated into a cube for the gallery presentation. The Out On the Weekend: The Taking of Leisure Mountain installation and drawings reflected cycles of consumption, season and landscape, while the performance and radio show examined leisure time, labor movements, and the pioneering spirit.
